What are veneers?
Veneers are thin, shell-like caps that attach to the front of your teeth. They cover imperfections to give your smile a more attractive shape, size, or color.
At Dental Group of Tysons, Dr. Nahlah custom creates your veneers to match the rest of your teeth and fit in with your smile. Once they’re made to your preference, he attaches them to your teeth during a quick in-office procedure.
What types of veneers are available?
There are several materials commonly used for veneers, each with different benefits. You can choose:
Porcelain veneers are thin but very strong. They look almost exactly like your natural teeth in color and opacity and they’re hard to stain.
Composite resin veneers
Composite resin veneers are durable, cost-effective, and made to be the same color as your natural teeth. They’re not as wear and stain resistant as porcelain veneers, but they’re easy to repair if they get damaged.
How can veneers alter my smile?
Veneers can improve the look of your smile in many ways, covering up various imperfections including:
- Spots and stains
- Misshapen teeth
- Short teeth
- Large gaps
If you have other ways in which you’d like to improve your smile’s appearance, Dr. Nahlah can help you decide whether to use veneers or another cosmetic appliance.
What is the process for getting veneers?
Veneers are a relatively quick and simple process when it comes to cosmetic dental alterations. During your initial consultation, Dr. Nahlah examines your teeth to make sure they’re healthy and strong enough to accommodate your new veneers.
Once he decides to proceed with the process, he prepares your teeth by removing a small amount of enamel from the front and sides.
Next, Dr. Nahlah creates impressions and selects a shade that closely matches your teeth. He sends the impression and the color selection to the lab for your custom veneers. They may take a few days, but he gives you temporary veneers to wear while you wait.
At your final appointment, Dr. Nahlah matches your custom veneers to your teeth to make sure they fit and look natural. He adjusts them as needed before bonding them to your teeth. Finally, he polishes them to perfection.
