What are dental implants?

Dental implants act like your natural tooth roots to anchor new prosthetic teeth into your jawbone. They’re the strongest option for replacement teeth available. With dental implants, you might forget you ever lost a tooth at all.

If you’re missing just one tooth, Dr. Nahlah uses a single implant for it. If you’re missing a whole row of teeth, he uses All-on-4® implants, attaching a row of new teeth to just four sturdy implants to preserve your jaw.

What are All-on-4 implants?

All-on-4 implants restore your smile with four precisely placed implants on the top of your mouth and four on the bottom. The implant is made of titanium, which over time, fuses with your bone and eventually becomes part of your jaw.

Because these implants are permanently fixed in place, it also prevents future bone loss. During the procedure, Dr. Nahlah makes any necessary extractions and then places your implants. Your implants are customized and fixed the same day.

You leave the office with a new smile that looks, feels, and acts just like your normal teeth. At Dental Group of Tysons, you can have new teeth in just one day.

What are the benefits of dental implants?

There are many benefits of choosing dental implants to replace your missing teeth. Dental implants are:

  • Durable
  • Long-lasting
  • Comfortable
  • Attractive
  • Convenient
  • Easy to maintain

They allow you to speak clearly and eat with ease. They also aid in keeping your remaining natural teeth healthy and in place.

What’s the process for getting dental implants?

Getting dental implants takes a few visits to the Dental Group of Tysons, but most patients agree that it’s worth it in the end.

At your first appointment, Dr. Nahlah examines your mouth and takes X-rays and other images. He also reviews your medical history and goals for the treatment. Then, he creates your personalized plan for successful restoration.

The procedure itself involves several stages. First, Dr. Nahlah removes any remaining part of the damaged tooth. In some cases, he grafts part of your jawbone to strengthen it for the implant and post.

Then, he inserts the implant into place. Before proceeding, your bone must heal around the implant for several months.

At your final visit, Dr. Nahlah screws the abutment, or metal post, into your implant to hold the artificial tooth. After a few more weeks of healing, he attaches your custom artificial tooth to the abutment and makes final tweaks to make sure it fits.

Am I a candidate for dental implants?

Many patients who have lost one or more teeth are candidates for dental implants. Dr. Nahlah may decide that you’re a candidate if:

  • Your jawbone is fully developed
  • Your gums and remaining teeth are generally healthy
  • You don’t want dentures
  • You don’t smoke
  • You’re willing to commit to the process

If you’re not a candidate, Dr. Nahlah can help you explore other tooth replacement options.

Permanent dental implants are the strongest option for tooth replacement on the market. To find out if you’re a candidate, call Dental Group of Tysons or book your appointment online today.
